what to expect
I work with natural light so it really doesn’t take me long to be ready to start shooting.
When I first arrive at your home I’ll ask to have a look around to find some lovely pockets of light for us to work in. Please don’t feel the need to do lots of housework before I visit.... you’ll have plenty on your hands already looking after your growing family.
I am an expert at clearing space as we go :)
what to wear
Whatever you’re most comfortable in! Most of my families just want to feel like themselves and look back on the images and be recognisable.
Think light, soft, muted tones and natural fibres wherever babies are concerned. Newborns especially have very delicate skin tones. A plain white sleep suit and a soft grey blanket, for example, will keep the attention on your baby.
Avoid very bold patterns and motifs since this can be quite distracting in the images (even in B&W). It's best to avoid black of very dark colours because this can be harsh against peachy newborn skin tones.
Often families like to pick a colour which everyone incorporates into their outfits, and this is a great way of creating images that really gel together.
preparation
Newborn shoots take place in your home and are really relaxed sessions - We’ll be completely led by your baby and you and take plenty of breaks for milk, settling and changing.
A well fed and warm baby is a happy baby, so I ask that the little one is nicely full for when I arrive if possible. Warm up any cold rooms to take the chill off.
It’s also good to have your newborn dressed in a plain vest or bodysuit (not too big and feet out if possible, please) and swaddled in a soft neutral blanket so that once I’ve established where the best place is to shoot we need not disturb unnecessarily.
lets get connected
Most of my families love to share their images with their loved ones. Hopefully you’ll have already given my Instagram page a like so (if you like) I‘ll be able to tag you in your preview photographs.
