Make 2018 the year to capture your family photographs. If you REALLY want to have an in-home or on-location newborn, baby or family shoot but have a reluctant partner, here are a few ways of convincing them... :)
Now, it's invariably mummies that seek me out and make a booking for a newborn or baby photography shoot, so I'll refer to 'him' in this post, but this is equally applicable if you have a camera shy wife!!
First of all, find his happy space...pour him a glass of wine, make a nice dinner...butter him up a little so he's more receptive to your suggestion. Hey, it all helps, right? And needs must! If you broach the subject while he's watching rugby or working then he'll be far too distracted.
BABY PHOTOGRAPHY | 6 WAYS TO CONVINCE A RELUCTANT OTHER HALF
YOU WANT SOMETHING MORE THAN JUST IPHONE PHOTOS
The old adage is true, tempus fugit, and no more so than when you have your hands full with little ones and a growing family. BUT, if you don't take action the years will slip away and before you know if you'll have only those on your iPhone
YOU WANT TO BE IN THE FRAME
You need to be IN the pictures. If you're serious about capturing memories for your children as they grow up, then you need to be present IN the photographs and not always behind the iPhone. That's the images that they'll want to see. If he hates photographs of himself, then I'd challenge you that he's just never had a good photograph taken.
EXPLAIN THAT YOU HAVE OPTIONS
Newborn and baby photography has come a long way since the 80's (where personally I feel it all went a bit odd). You no longer have to strip your baby off and pose him to within an inch of his life - you have OPTIONS. Documentary, lifestyle or traditional...no matter where you sit on the scale, you'll be able to find the right photographer for you. My style of baby photography for instance, is natural and lifestyle based. Find out more about the differences between baby photography styles by reading my article about the different styles of photography available to you
KNOW THAT BABY PHOTOGRAPHY IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
If you're married already, you presumably would have hired a photographer to capture the memories for you. So I ask you this...is having a baby any less of a significant moment in your lives? If anything, I'd argue it's MORE monumental. Yes, the urgency is not the same because it's not just one day of your lives, but think of it as one of your duties as a parent to preserve these memories for your children.
SHOW HOW MUCH IT MEANS TO YOU
Obvious really, but you tell him how much it means! He won't know unless you tell him.
Mother's day this year falls on 11th March, what more perfect present could there be than beautiful, lasting photographs of your time as a new family? Why not drop some hints to your other half or send him a link to this page - he may surprise you with a newborn or baby photography voucher or even book the session himself. If that happens, my work is done :)
